Steve Jobs on iPhone4G Antenna Problem
Read: Steve Jobs Comments On iPhone 4 Reception Issues, Says There is None [Apple CEO Steve Jobs Takes Back Previous Statement, Implies a Reception Fix is Coming Soon] » TFTS – Technology, Gadgets & Curiosities
Seeing how just about every product of Apple’s proceeds to either sell-out tremendously fast, crash a server or two, or all of the above, it’s quite obvious that there would be a considerable amount of hype surrounding and there has. Ever since the iPhone 4 was first leaked by Gizmodo Apple fanboys everywhere have been soaking up every bit of information about Apple’s latest handset that they can.
Launching on June 24th with pre-orders on June 15th, Apple’s iPhone 4 managed to crash not only Apple’s servers, but AT&T’s, as well due to massive pre-orders. Some consumers received their devices as early as June 22nd with some pre-orders getting canceled and others getting delayed until early July.
Whatever the case may be, when purchasing any product with such hype, you expect said product to live up to the hype which the iPhone 4 arguably has been, and arguably has not been. The newest iPhone is essentially just an upgraded version of the 3GS so it wins there, but one thing is has been receiving a lot of bad press about is its antenna. Announced at WWDC as an amazing new feature by Apple CEO Steve Jobs, the exterior band acting as an antenna has given the phone more problems than praise.
If you’ve been following the phone at all you’ll know that if you position your grip correctly, you can force it to lose reception and drop calls. Previously, Steve Jobs has said changing the grip would remedy the problem but it seems he has now retracted that statement.
When e-mailed again by an iPhone 4 user regarding the reception issue, Steve Jobs responded with the following statement:
There is no reception issue. Stay Tuned.
Could this possible mean that the issue is actually software related and not hardware related like previously thought? I guess we’ll have to wait and find out.

MyDitto Cloud NAS Revealed
myditto nas
The NAS itself will have two HDD bays with a maximum capacity of 4TB. For connectivity it will have two USB ports and a wired Ethernet port. It will support DLNA and iTunes standards for multimedia protocols, but the real trick here is the top secret “myDitto proprietary” connection protocol that connects the NAS to the thumb drive.
We were eager to learn how this exactly worked and how the USB thumb drive was networked to the NAS (or why you even needed a thumb drive – why can’t your laptop simply connect to your home network over the cloud and pull data off the myDitto?), but Dane-Elec is keeping all of the myDitto’s inner workings under wraps.
For security, the myDitto will feature “personalized” security through authenticated USB keys, combined with a password protection scheme. For desktops and notebooks, the myDitto can be used with Windows XP or later, any Mac OS after 10.5, and even Fedora and Ubuntu. On the Mobile OS side, the myDitto is only compatible with the iPhone and Windows Mobile platforms.

TFTS Medium Logo DisplayPort 1.2 Standard Now Official
There’s a new DisplayPort standard out there and the Video Electronics Standards Association, in short VESA, finally made it official. DisplayPort 1.2 is apparently industry’s “most innovative and flexible digital communication interface standard for transporting display, audio and data.”
The new standard is a “comprehensive extension” to the regular DisplayPort employed by various machines so far. DisplayPort v1.2 is of course backwards compatible with DisplayPort v1.1a including Mini DisplayPort connectors and existing cable.
The new standard will offer a doubled transfer rate from 10.8Gbps to 21.6Gbps thus increasing display resolution, color depths, refresh rates and multiple display capabilities. Put it more simply DisplayPort 1.2 will offer superior graphics and you’ll be able to enjoy your favorite shows at once on as many displays you decide to get.
The new standard supports all the features and specs of the formers standard but adds plenty of features of its own. The standard supports multi-streaming which will let you transport multiple independent uncompressed display and audio over the same cable and it will let you enjoy all the 3D gaming you want in the near future. DisplayPort v1.2 can offer you support for either two 2,560 x 1,600 monitors at 60Hz over one cable or four 1,920 x 1,200 monitors over the same cable.
The standard will let you transfer USB 2.0 or Ethernet data over the standard DisplayPort cable which is definitely a very welcomed feature.
Last but not least, DisplayPort v1.2 comes with new audio enhancements and full HD 3D stereoscopic display support:
Audio:
- Audio Copy Protection and category codes
- High definition audio formats such as Dolby MAT, DTS HD, all Blu-Ray
- formats, and the DRA standard from China
- Synchronization assist between audio and video, multiple audio channels, and
- multiple audio sink devices using Global Time Code (GTC)
Full HD 3D Stereoscopic displays:
- Life-like motion using up to 240 frames-per-second in full HD, providing 120
- frames-per-second for each eye
- 3D Stereo transmission format support
- Field sequential, side by side, pixel interleaved, dual interface, and stacked
- 3D Stereo display capability declaration
- Mono, Stereo, 3D Glasses
